Welcome to my web page. This section is to give you some idea of who is
standing in front of the board for each lecture. After high school I received
a presidential appointment to USMA, West Point. I was injured and
consequently discharged as a disabled veteran. I got my B.S. in chemistry
from Boise State University. During and after my B.S. I worked for the Boise
Forensic Laboratory on arson, rape, drug and homicide cases. I went to
graduate school at U.C. Davis and finished my Ph.D. dissertation in 1992 on
the synthesis of novel antibiotics. I worked in industry in conjunction with
the National Cancer Institute working on the synthesis of novel anti-cancer
and anti-aids pharmaceuticals. I also submitted three patents in polymer
research. I have been an instructor at the University of California, Davis
and at the State University of New York, Cortland. I have taught courses that
range from 450 - 2 students. I have also won several teaching awards. I am
also a chemistry editor for several publishing companies. My husband, Steven
Matzner (biology prof) and I live here in Sioux Falls, along with two dogs,
three cats and our three children: Daniel, Joshua and Luke. I really enjoy
both teaching chemistry and playing around in the lab.
