CHEMISTRY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION MAJOR
Updated December 21, 2005

Students desiring to teach high school must complete a double major, one in a content area and one in Secondary Education. The student can usually enhance employment flexibility by also completing an endorsement in one or more additional areas. Further enhancement can be achieved by obtaining a middle school (education) endorsement.

After admission to the Teacher Education Program, students must sign two additional forms that are not currently available on the Education web site:

Students will normally make application for teacher education and take the Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) when enrolled in EDUC/SPEC 110. Transfer and non-traditional students should check with the Education Department Chair to determine their entrance status.

Students may graduate under the requirements of the catalog in force during the session in which they first enrolled (provided they graduate within six years from the end of that session), or they may graduate under the requirements of the catalog of the session in which they meet graduation requirements.  Make sure to verify the checklist(s) you consult with the catalog you plan to graduate under.  The advisor and other personnel of the college will help the student in every way possible to avoid errors, but the student has the final responsibility for satisfying all degree requirements according to the catalog chosen.

To the best of my knowledge this checklist reflects the criteria stated in the current catalog.   If you detect any errors or oversights, please contact me at duane.weisshaar@augie.edu
